Step 3 How to create the Ultimate Capsule wardrobe
Less is more
Most people wear 20% or their wardrobe 80% of the time.
If lockdown's taught us anything, we've learned that we just don't need all the stuff in our closets.
Perhaps it's time for less is more. Or quality over quantity? It might be time to support local designers and manufacturers and buy Australian even if the price tag is a little bigger than all the throw away items we've purchased on a whim.
Surely all that culling and cleaning in the past few months, has started us thinking. How can we do this better? So from a colour consultant's perspective how will you cull your wardrobe successfully, have a functional and beautiful wardrobe and dress for success every time not just once in a while?
Don't throw away things you can use.
This sounds pretty obvious but how will you know what suits you and looks best on you or what is actually functional if you have never had a proper colour and style analysis?
What will you remove from your already cluttered space?
As a colour analyst, I have studied colours for 14 years to give my clients clear guidance on what colours are best for them and how to choose the thousands of colours that belong in their wardrobe.
Because there are over 16 million colours, you cannot be expected to know which ones suit you best without this guidance.
Cull with your seasonal colour palette.
Once you have had your colours done, use your colour palette to work out which colours have no business taking up space in your more functional wardrobe.
If your wardobe is cluttered with the wrong colours, it makes it more difficult to work out what looks best on you.
You cannot mix certain colours together. Colours from your palette are always your best option and will always create the best stylish outfits.
Remove all the old pieces as well as the ones that don't fit or are in the wrong style.
Keep to the less is more principle to be able to part with clothes you've kept for years and not worn away.
You will learn about your style and what suits your body shape over time and these are what you want as staples. The style principles come very easily when you work on your colours first.

7 Steps to Image Success-Lesson 2-Cull your wardrobe
Cull your wardrobe using your swatch
To achieve Image Success it's important to follow certain steps.
In Step 1 in the last blog, I discussed having an accurate colour analysis.
This is the Key that unlocks your true Image potential and shows you how to wear colours that flatter who you are.
Once you have had your colours done, you will receive a seasonal Colour swatch.
Follow this link to see the colour swatches available.

Only 4 seasonal colour palettes
I personally only endorse the 4 seasonal colours, as every known colour can be allocated into only 4 groups
So many are confused with the plethora of colour systems and swatches
Incorrect colour swatches
Note the swatch below called Dark Autumn actually has colours from every season.
If you're not sure about your colours feel free to contact Your Colours and Style for an accurate colour analysis and swatch.
Your colours are endless
Your swatch is an excellent tool to determine the many fabulous colours that suit you. With over 16 million colours, you will find that an huge number of those colours belong in your palette.
Even though the palette has only 32 colours, learning to work your colour palette is a must, as it reveals the diversity of colours available to you.
If you're not sure of your "colour rules" please contact me and I will email them to you.
You look best in your colours
Wearing all your colours is so liberating to your Image. You will loo younger, slimmer, more attractive and more stylish.
As a colour consultant my goal is to teach my clients how to do that well. When I say ALL your colours, there are literally thousands of choices.
In the last blog I outlined how to find all your colour choices by using your swatch correctly.
Remove all the wrong colours from your wardrobe
Have you noticed a mixture of colours in your wardrobe that do not go together or "flow"?
Mixing everything with black for example is a real no no.
Not everything goes with black. In this image you have a warm teal colour from the Autumn Palette and a black from the Winter Palette. This is the best way to look drab and dull.
This is a real image breaker. It's best to coordinate only from your colour palette.
So the first thing is to remove all the items in your wardrobe that are not in your palette.
This may be brutal as you grieve over the things that hold sentimental and monetary value.
If this is too difficult, I always suggest placing them in another room until you grow with your new colours and the "new you"
Interestingly enough, the new you may take a little while to get used to as you are familiar with your old look.
Old being the operative word, because you will look older in the wrong colours.
Holding on to items that are not in the right colours' sets you up to fail.
Your capsule wardrobe should "flow"
How do you build a great capsule wardrobe?
By using only the right colours.
Once you place the right colours in your wardrobe everything with go together and everything will look fabulous on you.
You'll look great from top to toe.
Start building with your basics.
So many stylists tell their clients their basics are black and white and so they build a wardrobe around the dominant cool colours that only go with black.
You're basics are the classics in your neutral colours first, and then items in your fashion colours.
Choose the neutral shades in your swatch and begin building with those.
Just that one pair of jeans in your colours will go with every shirt, every jumper and every jacket.
This is how you are going to have so many outfits with so few garments.
Of course you can then grab one or 2 pairs of shoes and even 1 bag in any of your colours and you'll be surprised at how many outfits one thing can go with.
I hope you're finding these tips helpful. Just go with your swatch and cull your wardrobe and I'll see you with the Lesson 3 of 7 steps to your Image transformation.
Please contact Your Colours and style if you find you need help with any of these steps.
7 steps to your image transformation
7 Image Transforming steps
Step 1-How to use your seasonal colour swatch
Congratulations on taking the 1st step towards your best image.
Colour is the key to your image success and identifying your colours is the best place to start for transformation.
Colour is more complex than people imagine simply because there are over 16 million of them. In fact the number is probably an infinite number.
Also hundreds of confusing colour systems have emerged that are just misleading and incorrect.
Most people in the world wear the wrong colours.
Most people in the world wear the wrong colours most of the time because they don’t know their colours.
Many people default to black for this reason, or just wear the wrong colours, which is sad because finding the right colours can change the way you look completely.
Thank you for choosing your colours and style colour analysis.
I take the responsibility of giving you the right colours seriously.
This accurate colour system was birthed out of 10 years of research, to make colours simple and easy to follow for everyone.
This system works for all.

What is a Colour Analysis?
Colour analysis for your Personal style
Have you ever had your colours done?
Are you aware of the benefits to your look by wearing your colours?
If you're a young woman or a mature woman, wearing the right colours is really a style game changer.
(Young woman before and after wearing her colours)
If you're a mature woman, wearing the right colours is more important, than when you were younger because the aging process accentuates all your flaws.
If you notice yourself, often looking a little dull and drab, you may just be wearing the wrong colours.
Even celebrities can improve on their colours
An example of her wearing the right colours is on the right.
To maintain a youthful look, she should continue to wear the colours in the image on the right.
Women in the right Colours
A professional colour analysis, will help you find ALL the right Colours in your Seasonal Colour Palette.
It's all about the underskin tone
Colours really change the way you look.
To show the client the right colours that suit them, the stylist will have a serious of cool, warm, dominant and muted coloured drapes.
The draping kit will have a variety of shades to demonstrate just how much the skin colour is affected by placing swatches against the skin.
It's up to the colour consultant to reveal to the client just how each colour affects the way they look
At first glance this coral swatch may appear suitable but the clarity of the skin, eyes, hair and lips is muddied on the left.
As mentioned the wrong colours are less noticeable on younger women.
The pink swatch shows how flattering the cooler shades are on this model.
(Note how the Coral colour adds an orangey warm tone?)
The next steps are to drape the client with one of each season in red, blue, green, yellow blue and white drapes.
The client will see how the different tones change the way she looks.
She will notice the wrong colours make her look older, duller, and less attractive.
The wrong colours highlight dark shadows, wrinkles, lines, pigmentation and redness. The right colours give clarity, brightness, freshness and youthfulness.
(It's obvious just how much younger, slimmer and more attractive this mature woman appears when she wears the right colours, on the right)
The process of a colour analysis
Since the 60's Colours has gone through major changes.
Originally Colour me Beautiful and other Colour Companies and Franchaise had just 4 seasonal palettes. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
From there many Colour systems emerged, making way for many different interpretations as well as mass confusion.
The 4 Colours system is and was accurate, but many untrained and unskilled analysts misdiagnosed clients, hence many more confusing systems appeared, deeming the original system, not enough.
The analysis is only as good as their interpretation of the process.
Why are the 4 seasonal palettes so accurate?
There are an infinite number of colours. At least 2.5million
When you think of it, every colour on the planet can fit into one of 4 categories.
The categories are Cool Dominant, Cool Muted, Warm Brights or Warm Deep Colours.
So when the colour consultant does your analysis, they need to find the right palette that "blends" with your underskin tone.
They also need to have a good knowledge about how to slot the 2.5 million plus colours into the right category.
There are so many different seasonal colour swatches on the market, and many have combinations of all the colour categories in the one seasonal palette.
So women are confused and go back to wearing any old colour or lots of black
I have seen so many women like this, which is a real shame as they never experience the beauty of colour

SENIOR STYLE
How to be stylish over 50
You've seen it. Those women that never age, always fashionable, always stylish, always beautiful.
What is it about these women and how can you cash in on this ceaseless style that's the envy of every women?
Can all women age gracefully?
All women can age gracefully, but just how wonderful is it to see women looking better than just aging gracefully?
How good is it to see women looking spectacularly beautiful and confident with a look to attract positive attention?
What are the top tips you can attend to that will keep your glow throughout your aging seasons?
Nothing beats health and wellness
Genetics play a major roll in our appearance, but we can enhance or hinder, what the good Lord has gifted us with.
We see the ravages of time upon womens' looks with years of neglect.
Our bodies and our face will only reflect, just how kind we've been to them over the decades.
So first things first. Health, wellness, fitness and strength are the underpinning for a super stylish nanny.
All the money, fashion and style tips in the world, won't help if we neglect the fundamentals of looking good by not attending to our health and well being
It's also so much better to dress a fit body rather than one that's neglected and overweight.
It's never easy as we age but staying fit and strong and keeping our weight stable is always a good goal.
Be your own style guru.
There are only 2 things that really matter for mature style.Being true to yourself and wearing your colours.
As a colorist and stylist my aim is to guide women toward the right colours
Most women wear the wrong colours most of the time, and this makes it extremely difficult to dress well as we mature.
Having your colours sorted, makes the world of difference when it comes to being a glamour granny.
Get groovy
We all can be predictable, boring and ordinary when it comes to our image, but why should we be?
Once you have your colours done and 1000's of colour options are available to you, it's surprising just how creative you can be with your fashion designs.
Get imaginative, try new things, try things you think may not suit you, as long as they're in the right colours.
Did you know, the most beautiful outfit can look ghastly simply because it's in the wrong colour?
Those super stylish women are wearing the colours and styles that look amazing on them.
So what are you waiting for ?
Have a colour analysis and get super creative with your style.

Your Wedding Colours
How to create your wedding with the right colours
Your wedding will be aesthetically beautiful if you harmonize the whole day around certain colours.
Look at any wedding photo album and note the images that are professional to look at are those with the right colour scheme.
It's all about colour
Colour is the key to every image success. Photographers look for light and they look for good colour composition when they create beautiful images.
There are over 2.5 million colours to choose from or more. It's not difficult to choose the wrong colours, so how will you find the right colours for your bridal shots?
Consider colour for the following things-brides outfit, the mother of the bride or groom, the bridal party, shoes, hair colour, make up colours, venue colours and even photographic backdrops.
You can see how so many colours can be in the mix, so here are a few colour tips that will make all the other choices much easier and alleviate some of the stressful decision you need to make.
The brides colours
Traditionally bridal colours are softer and more feminine. It's a good look when you're getting married.
You don't want to look back in a few years time and be shocked by some outrageous fashion choices you made.
I'm pleased to see most bridal houses are holding colours like ivory, champagne, beige, silver, silver pinks, rose and soft golds as well as soft pinks and blues to name the most popular tones.
Bridal make up colours
My recommendation for all my brides would be to wear colours that tone into your skin and look soft and natural
Heavy make up, dark eyes, overly shimmery eyes and cheeks and thick unnatural lashes are worn by young women today but this is a fashion that does not look natural and in my opinion very attractive either.
You want a look that is evergreen and proud to be seen for decades to come.
Mother of the bride colours
Inkeeping with the bride, mothers can stay on the softer tones theme.
These colours will flatter mature women and give her a more youthful appearance.
Aside from having a colour analysis here are a few ideas. Stick with colours like soft taupes, champagnes, rose gold, soft gold, soft pinks and blues, just to name a few. A professional colour and style analysis will explore all your colour and style choices, so it's a great investment not only for the wedding but for the future as well, if you're one to like to look stylish and ageless.
My Mother of the bride choice is this rose gold dress and shoes and I'll match the jacket in similar tones but with a more structured style than the jacket image here. Perhaps longer sleeves and a thin lapel
Mother of the bride hair
Interestingly enough, wearing the right hair colour can make all the difference to how you will look.
A simple tip is darker hair tones look great lightened a little and blonde tones need to look natural. Sometimes that requires blondes to go a shade darker.
Refer to your colour chart for the optimal hair colours for you.
Bridal floral colours
Flowers come in a plethora of shades. Some are dominant colours, some are muted and some have a slightly warm tinge. Find flowers that blend into the colour scheme. Flowers arrangements can also look formal or casual so choose flower shapes that compliment your outfits. Usually softer petals look quiet formal.
Colours for the bridal venue
You're venue will ask you for your colour scheme and it's another opportunity to keep the colour theme going.
For example if you're wearing soft beiges and ivory colours, you will want to avoid dominant colours like black and white and primary red for your table settings. Think about colour for everything.
Finally ask the photographer to take photos in the areas that are more natural as well, like the ocean and green spaces. These colours are natural and go beautifully with images of people.
