Foundation for mature women

How to choose the right foundation for mature skin

The right foundation colour for mature skin

Choosing a foundation that's right for your skin colour is a problem many women face.

There are 1000's of shades of foundation on the market and lots of different brands and formulas. How are you going to choose the right one?

Is there a foundation that can make you look younger and more glamorous without looking like a made up doll?

And what can you do to avoid making the make up mistakes that are so common?

Colour is the main thing.

How many times have you purchased a foundation and not been happy with it?

Have you EVER been happy with your foundation?

Do you feel you look younger, fresher and attractive in your foundation?

Here are a few key tips that will ensure you make the best choice for make up confidence.

5 top tips for choosing the right colour foundation

  1. Colour is the key. Foundation needs to match your “under” skin tone to look natural. Make up artists and colour consultants use different techniques to determine what colours are best for you. But when it comes to foundation for mature women, my 13 years of experience tells me that beige, neutral and pink tones are more flattering to older women.

 Flattering foundation

  1. Choose a foundation you cannot see on the skin. This sounds counter intuitive but a lustrous skin look is gained with a foundation that isn’t detectable on the face.

  1. Apply a sheer layer of make up. Foundation looks more natural if it’s applied very thinly and not like a mask

  1. Don’t go to light. To avoid a wishy washy look that makes you look tired and lacklustre don’t choose a foundation shade that is too light or white

Make up is too light and white

  1. Don’t choose a colour that’s too dark or orange.

Many make up manufacturers use a base that is very yellow or orange. Young women seem to like this look, but it gives a heavy coverage and a dark, heavy and aged look

Make up too orangey and dark

 YCS Foundations

Foundations for mature skin in the right colours.

YCS Foundations are amazing for mature women.

The creamy textures work well with drier skins particularly.

The wonderful thing about YCS Foundation is 3-4 shades will suit almost every woman, relieving all the stress of going through hundreds of colours to choose the right one for you.

Most mature women will need an oil based foundation for a dewy finish. Very few woman over the age of 40 have an oily skin. If you do, you can easily choose an oil free formula.

Here is how to get the right shade

01 is for light skin tone

02 is for medium skin tone

03 is for deep skin tone

04 is for dark skin tone.

The 3 formulas above FH Hydrating formula, Cover all foundation and wet and dry foundation can be used on it’s own or as a light dusting powder.

So choose the formula you like.

Eg. Hydrating formula. If you are light you will be FH01, Medium FH02, Deep FH03 very dark FH32.

Cover all foundation

12 top tips to youthful make up

12 top tips to youthful make up

How to look younger in your make up

Are you over 40 and would like to know how to have a make up look that's youthful as well as relevant?

Are you tired of the make up looks in the magazines that relate only to young women?

Have you had many make up disasters and would love to know how to fix them?

Have you had your make up done and couldn't wait to take it off?

These are the problems that plague so many mature women.

We are no longer considered "young", but we don't want to feel old and frumpy either. We certainly still want to look attractive and well groomed.

Over many years Your Colours and style has encountered  hundreds of women that struggle with their make up.

After working with countless older women, longing to be stylish, I have discovered the top industry secrets to a more youthful look.

Most mature women want fresh and natural make up

When I ask mature women, "what's the one word to describe how you want your make up to look?" The top answer is NATURAL. Now that can be a far cry from the sort of make up looks we see in the magazines today.

Older women can not wear the same make up as younger women!!!!!!!

When we age our skin changes, that's no surprise. Lines and wrinkles appear. The skin becomes less plump and hydrated. Dark circles, dark lines, pigmentation and redness are all something that most women experience as they age. So how do you combat the imperfections, without wearing a mask?

Youthful skin, youthful make up

Before you consider applying any make up, my recommendation is to tend to the skin first. Moist, hydrated well cared for skin, will always look better in the right make up, so invest in good skin care even before your make up.

My recommendation is Ciencia skin care products.

Here is my before and after image after using this product for 9 years. 2008-2017

The key to youthful make up is colour

The top tip for wearing make up that looks more youthful is to wear make up that matches your underskin tone and is in your seasonal colours.

Do not go to an inexperienced make up artist that checks your skin tone by looking at your veins. This is not the way to match your make up. You will also need to find products that are in the right colours as well.

As a colour consultant, what I will do is match the make up colours and right toned formulas to my clients skin. Youthful make up will blend in with your skin tone, not sit on top, or compete with your natural colour.

My 14 top steps to youthful make up

1. Brow. Create a brow that is soft and natural and inkeeping with your face shape, with a gentle undulation. If brows are too thin, a soft brow pencil will create a beautiful shape. I like to use Cougar Brow wax as well as the soft brow powder with a very thin angle brush and use small hair strokes to create a beautiful brow.

2. Concealer. YCS Concealer No 104 will be a good colour for most women.

Apply under brow, above brow, all over eye lid, in the corner of the eye where the skin is dark, under the eye lid, in the dark part of the eye bag and around and under nostrils.

3. Your Colour eyeshadows. 2-3 shades is fine. The lightest shade all over the eyeball and if you want a larger eye go a little further. You may put shade 2 in the crease, in the corner of the eye or part crease. The dark shade will go along the lashline with a very fine angle brush on it's own or over the kohl pencil.

4. Tight line with a kohl pencil under the bottom lashes, for eye definition.

5. Using a very thin wet angle brush do a very thin line along the top lashes, can be over a very thin kohl line.

6. Lashings of Brown mascara only. Black is too harsh,.

7. Mix a tiny amount of YCS Foundation in your exact shade with a clear primer over face and blend into the concealer under eyes.

8. Optional powder, very lightly with translucent powder or a light dust with YCS Wet and dry powder

If you still show redness across cheeks or chin for example you can repeat steps 7 and 8.

9. Highlight cheeks with YCS Rose Gold Bronzer/Highlighter.

10. Punch a touch of blush onto cheek bones. Blend.

11. "Plump" the lip shape with a lip pencil lightly colour in,

12. Apply a full amount of lipstick.

13. Lip gloss is optional in the full part of the lips.

14. Spray with Motives 10 years younger setting spray

Old hats due for a comeback

Old hats are due for a Comeback

Old hats are Due For Comeback

By Shruti Sinha

Whether we want to look fashionable or to keep ourselves warm, hats have always been there from  days of old.

People have always known how to pull off fashionable head wear.

Old is gold, so we can say these things are valuable and will always enjoy a comeback.

  1. Fedora

The Fedora is chosen by  gangsters in the movies. In recent times fashion has accepted the firm brimmed hat once more and it’s a great addition to your outfit.

Although Fedoras’ come in all sizes and colours we would purposely stick to those which have additional neutral tone and medium width.

      2. Trilby

The Trilby is often confused with a Fedora but Trilby is a different kind of hat altogether.

It can be worn from  Spring to Autumn as it has a taller crown and smaller brim than a Fedora hat. Tweed or straw completes the hat.

These are the high-quality hats for upper-class members or boy band members such as Justin Timberlake.

All over the world during horse racing events, these hats are quite noticeable.

       3. Panama

Panama hats are light in colour and weight. These hats should be avoided during winter weather as they are made for sunshine and blue skies.

These type of hats flawlessly fit in with an easy beach-going look as these are breathable and simple to wear.

People love to wear these hats on vacations because of their light weight and portability. Look out for more such hat styles on http://thehatsguide.com

     4. Bowler

The Bowler hat is also acknowledged as a Bob hat or Billycock or Derby or Bombin.

This hat is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown, shaped by London manufacturers Thomas and William Bowler in 1849.

It’s also normally known as a Derby as the hat is hard. It’s a hard felt hat with a tapered brim.

The hat is famous amongst the stylish Brits and was made prominent by eminent actors such as Charlie Chaplin, John Cleese and Curly Howard.

Upper, middle and working class preferred this hat just the same.

     5. Snapback

When New York snapback became progressively omnipresent among the Yankees fans the 90’s hat came into fashion.

The markets have been surrounded by the snapbacks which are worn by ballers, fashionistas, and cool kids all around the globe.

     6. Dad Hat

These have a slightly bent brim and are generally made of canvas or cotton. Dad hats are relaxed baseball caps.

It consists of a modifiable strap back closing, making it one size fits all.

Dad hats are a great choice to add to your look for any sport, or to just add an old-fashioned vibe to any look.

    7. Newsboy

In the 19th century the Newsboy hat evolved and in the 2000’s these old-fashioned caps made a huge comeback.

The newsboy hat looks like a flat hat. These hats are round and full caps which have panels and buttons on top of the hat attaching the front part to the brim of the hat.

      8. Flat Cap

Flat Cap hats were once worn by farmers and chimney sweepers, but today flat caps are popular among celebrities and television characters.

Flat caps come in wool and cotton; these are also lined for additional comfort.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are different varieties of old hats that are due for a comeback. Even today these old-style hats are popular everywhere.

Necessity is the mother of invention which led to the modification of these hats. Keep reading this blog for latest updates on Fashion.

10 years younger in your make up

10 years younger in your make up

As we mature we can become confused about our make up.

What looks good. What looks bad. I look ridiculous. Too much make up. Not enough. What colours should I be choosing?

Is this the right formula? Where do I buy my make up? How do I apply my make up?

After all no one has ever taught me and I'm not a make up artist. I should be doing something different.

There is such a vast array of make up, make up colours, formulas and brands, choosing what is right is overwhelming.

You may have had the experience of going to a make up counter with a so called “professional” only to be disheartened and discouraged and go home to clean it all off.

Wrong make up for mature women

A lot of older women still wear no make up, because they have tried to wear make up and feel it looks worse than having none on at all. But as we age we definitely need to have some colour on our face, because our skin has changed and is quiet colourless. Make up can also cover those flaws and highlight our natural beauty. Wearing good make up is always a plus.

Donʼt copy the make up trends for younger women.

Make up trends and fashions go through cycles and are constantly changing. The drivers of make up trends are those with young and flawless skin.

With skin enhancers and treatments, smooth and line free faces are the looks that fill the media and magazines. Unfortunately as most women

age they donʼt have flawlessly smooth and dewy complexions. The skin will fade with age. Womenʼs skin sags and loses integrity. Lines, pigmentation and redness are perfectly normal. If we are following the make up trends we may fail miserably to look younger and more attractive. It could have the opposite effect.

So what must we do to look beautiful and attractive if we are 40 plus?

Mature make up

Make up is about colour, shape, shade, subtlety and definition for mature skin.

Much of the make up today is not about the “natural” look. Big lashes, bold lips, strong brows, dramatic eyes, tight skin, dark shadows and deep shading are not natural. You cannot follow these trends with older skin. These looks will accentuate sagging and aging skin.

If you desire lovely soft looks they are achieved by bringing the right light with the right colours.

First and foremost, choose colours that are softer and more muted and in your colour palette. A colour consultation is a great place to start. Have your colours done and you will be able to choose all your foundations, eyeshadows, lip colours, blushes and highlighters with your colour palette.

Once you have all the colours that suit you can go about creating a glamorous and natural make up look.

As a colour consultant, my top tips for make up are as follows.

Firstly choose a concealer in a skin colour one shade only lighter than your natural skin tone. By applying this concealer around the eyes, on the eyelids, around the nose and fanned all over the cheeks, your face can

Look 10 years younger.

Choose a foundation that matches your skin perfectly. My suggestion even though your skin may appear to be warm or yellow based, still go for a beige or pink based foundation. YCS Cosmetics have colours and formulas that suit all skin types and colours.

Always frame the face with a softer but defined brow. This will lift the brow and the face at the same time. Define the eyes with softer colours and shadows and do not use black. Black is not only harsh but will also minimize the eyes. YCS Brown mascara is a great choice.

Use a subtle shade on the cheeks and lift cheeks with upward brush strokes.

Always line and define the lips for fullness without radical fillers and plumpness. Too full lips on an older woman is a dead give away. The skin in loosing fullness naturally. This looks like your “cheating” and you are. Use colours only in your colour palette. Use powders that are in your skin tone lightly to set and reduce shine. Apply a setting spray to hold and return dewiness without grease and oil for a subtly youthful look.
